Serena Williams stepped onto the court for the 2018 French Open in a black catsuit with a red waistband. While most of us thought she looked amazing, on trend and ready to win, the regulators of the tournament didn’t feel the same way. After the match, The French Open decided to ban players from wearing catsuits to the tournament.
During the post-game interview Serena didn’t seem to be bothered by the decision. She knew she had taken a risk but made the decision to wear the catsuit due to her health. After giving birth she developed blood clots and in order to reduce the risk of developing additional blood clots, Serena began wearing pants on the court during practice. She also mentioned that this was not only for her health but it was a salute to new mom’s who had difficult pregnancies.

What a way to make a point and bring awareness to a huge issue. After all, fashion and beauty are the perfect tools to make a statement, stand out and break the mold right? The tennis world isn’t exactly here for stepping too far away from the mold much like sports such as golf. This isn’t her first go at breaking the mold on the court. Remember when Serena and Venus were known for their braids with beads?
After all was said and done, Serena Williams came back with the best clap back! She stood out on the court in a tutu! Yes, a tutu. And guess what? She also wore it with fishnet compression shorts too. Take that French Open! The outfit was designed by Louis Vuitton designer Virgil Abloh as part of the Off-White x Nike collection inspired by Serena called, “QUEEN."

By the way, she also wore sparkling silver rhinestone sneakers. We’re not mad at this look and we love how she didn’t let any, “rules,” stop her from being original on and off the court! Thank you Serena Willams for the reminder to break the mold!
